![]() In the other direction, we tooled around Rittenhouse Square, where we saw people attempting to find homes for several adorable kittens in the middle of an art festival. On the way back, we strolled through Reading Terminal Market and felt sad there was no room left in our stomachs for anything there, particularly the pork and broccoli rabe sandwich at DiNic’s. We ate outside in the adorable garden, feasting on just-made donut holes and lemon poppyseed pancakes and an enormous side order of bacon. On Sunday, we had brunch at Talula’s Garden, a really cool space no matter where you get seated. We also had our first and only cheesesteak of the trip at Sonny’s, which was delightful we got ours with provolone, peppers, and onions and paired it with some amazing bacon cheese fries. In Old City, we saw the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, sat in George Washington’s church pew, and popped into Betsy Ross’s house, where they sell a surprising number of healthy snacks from a very modern vending machine in the basement. For real though, it was a fine enough business hotel (it’s next to the convention center) and the location was great everything we wanted to see was a roughly 15 minute walk away. Luckily, we only discovered one person peeing on the outside of the hotel during our stay. My Hotel Nacional was fruity and well-made, and I returned to the hotel in great spirits (there’s a joke in there somewhere).Īfter a day of meeting and mingling, JD arrived and we changed hotels, moving from the pretty nice Hyatt Penn’s Landing with views of the river to the tolerable Downtown Marriott with views of some air conditioning units. ![]() The views were dramatic and the wine flowed, making it that much easier to say yes when people proposed continuing the networking at Hop Sing Laundromat, a really cute speakeasy hidden within a nondescript building in Chinatown. Let’s start with that dinner, which was held at R2L, a chic little place on the 37th floor of a shopping center in Center City. It’s not that the accommodations were uber luxurious or that they shipped me off to Paris it’s more so that the timing was awesome-a Thursday dinner into a Friday expo wherein all I did was taste creative new dishes like hummus ice cream and bacon whiskey-and the city it took me to-Philadelphia-was a great place to spend a couple of easy days. ![]() I’m afraid my first-ever business trip may have ruined me for work travel. ![]()
